AK-AL: Don Young’s Cash-on-Hand Continues to Wither Away

Crumb-bum Don Young just posted his first quarter fundraising report, and the numbers aren’t pretty for the embattled incumbent Republican.

In the first three months of 2008, Young raised $131,575 — a sum that wasn’t nearly enough to meet his net expenditures of $443,238.  His once-burgeoning cash-on-hand is now sitting at $604,268.  Will Young have the resources he needs to fend off very competitive primary and general election challenges?

Young’s tab included a long list of legal fees, including $212,752 paid to Akin Gump, $1100 to Holmes Weddle, $24,520 to Tobin O’Connor, and $15,020 to John W. Wolfe.  That’s a lot of scrilla, especially when you consider that Young began 2007 with $1.86 million cash-on-hand, a number that has dwindled in large part due to legal fees such as these.

  1. I ran into a handful of people who’s reports I couldn’t really find.  I went after all the Democrats and Republicans on my competitive list, and I got all the general senate numbers except for four guys.

What I really enjoyed was seeing Sean Parnell (Lt. Gov.) Only raise $20,000, while Paul Carmouche, in LA-04 raised over $100,000

  2. The leading Democratic candidate (at least by cash), Ethan Berkowitz, raised his cash on hand total from an end of year balance of $100,046 to $287,306 by March 31.  At that rate, he’ll pull ahead of Young by the June numbers.  Of course, at his current rate, Young will run out of money sometime around the end of September.

Young looks like he’s in trouble and Parnell may not save the Republicans like Pallin did.  Broke, crooked, and at war with the state’s dominant newspaper.  Real smart, Young.

  3. Great news for rabbi Dennis Shulman competing in NJ-05 to oust ultra-conservative Scott Garrett- CQPolitics has upgraded the rating of this race in our favour from Safe R to R Favoured.  This rating change was mostly due to the successful Q1 fundraising efforts for Shulman as he only trails the COH deficit by ONLY $112,000.

    Shulman has $246,000 COH to Garrett’s $458,000.
